“Then He said, “To what shall we liken the Kingdom of God?, or with what parable shall we picture it? It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground it is smaller than all the seeds on earth; but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all the herbs and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade” Mark 4:30-32.
Many of us are worried about the size of our gifts/talents. We are concerned it won’t go far, we are obsessed with the idea that many may not believe and doubt it.
In the scripture above, Jesus describes the Kingdom of God like a mustard seed (the smallest of all seeds) but when sown it becomes greater than all and bares fruit.
I want you to picture your gift/talent like the mustard seed. You may be thinking it’s too small to be recognised but do not let that stop you from using it. I don’t believe it’s about size; it’s about been faithful and obedient to what’s been given to you.
Worrying about what anyone would think will not profit the Kingdom but rather USING it, will. By using it, you are sowing your mustard seed.
One may ask, how would my talent bare fruit?
In vrs 26 & 27 of the same chapter, it describes how a man would scatter a seed on the ground, sleep at night and rise by day, the seed sprouts yet he himself does not know how.
You don’t need to know how or when the fruits will grow; just know that if God placed those gifts/talents in you and you are using them for His glory the fruits WILL testify and be visible to all in due time.
In the meantime, water it with the word of God DAILY, be disciplined and focused, surround yourself with people who appreciate and encourage your talent/gift. Then, watch God accomplish what He has started in you. Do not grow weary at all, because THOUGH YOUR BEGINNING WAS SMALL, YET YOUR LATTER END WOULD INCREASE ABUNDANTLY (Job 8:7).
If you’re ever tempted to look down on your gift or give up, just remember generations are relying on your obedience like the birds of the air rely on the shade of the mustard tree for nesting.
I’m praying for you.
