“Then Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, “Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do less or more”. Numbers 22:18.
The King of Moab, Balak was distressed and extremely afraid of the Israelites. The children of Israel had destroyed the Amorites with the help of God and Balak imagined his kingdom was next.
He searched for a way to destroy Israel before they destroy him and his kingdom. Balak sent messengers to Balaam, son of Boer who was reputed to be of great powers, to come forth and curse the Israelites.
Balaam refused as the Lord told him not to curse the children of Israel for they were blessed by Him (God). Balaam then sent the messengers away.
Balak stubbornly sent his men a second time to Balaam, this time, bribing him with riches. The above scripture/statement was Balaam’s response. (Full story Numbers 22:1-21).
Reading this chapter made me think about the present state of the kingdom of God. I’m here asking questions like, do we still have men/women of God who are rooted in the word enough to refuse bribery and riches from the world? Do we still have Christians who refuse to compromise the truth for fame and “likeness“?
Sometimes I feel the “faithful church” is fading gradually. We are loosing our integrity as a church. We seem to run from the word of God at the first bribery. Many are loosing the anointing due to greed and selfishness. We yearn to be liked by people than to be faithful to our God.
Nevertheless all is not lost; Jesus said in Matthew 16:18 “…. and on this rock, I will build my church and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it”.
No matter how appealing riches of the world are, we must never compromise or twist the word of God.
We must let our nay be nay and our ye be ye. It is not always an easy ground to stand on but the Bible says “He who endures till the end shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13).
Fight the good fight of faith and you will be rewarded in the end.
Today, ask God to help you exercise the good fight of faith He has placed in you. Do not compromise the word for riches, fame or likeness.
I’m praying for you.
