Numbers 32:5
“Therefore they said, If we have found favour in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not take us over the Jordan.”
The Israelites were getting closer to the Promised Land, suddenly there’s a change of heart from the children of Gad and children of Reuben (two out of the twelve tribes). They saw the other lands nearby and expressed to Moses in the above statement/scripture that they preferred those than Canaan (The Promised Land).
For a second I thought, what’s going on here? Why did they change their minds about entering into the land the Lord Himself blessed? The land which the God of their forefathers gave to them to possess.
Could it be that they were enticed by the appearance of the other land? Could it be fear of the unknown? Or just laziness?
I’m not sure why they changed their minds but one thing is definite; the moment they decided to stay in the east side of Jordan (other land) was the moment they settled. They settled for less.
They settled for less than what God had promised them and in so doing, they forfeited their inheritance.
My question to you today is,
ARE YOU SETTLING FOR LESS?
You know who you are in Christ, you know what God spoke over your life; so why are you deceiving yourself by thinking you’re happy with your Present Land? This isn’t your Promised Land and you know it.
ARE YOU SETTLING BECAUSE YOU ARE TIRED OR FEARFUL OF WHAT YOU MAY ENCOUNTER ON THE OTHER SIDE?
You see, in most cases I don’t buy the saying “The devil you know is better than the Angel you don’t know”. This phrase I believe has “thumbs up” many to be comfortable and not move forward. They ask questions like, “what if the other side is worse? What if it requires a lot of work, what if I die before I get there?”
On the flip side, my question to you again is,
WHAT IF THE ANGEL IS TRULY AN ANGEL AND NOT AN IMPOSTOR?
What if it’s truly where God wants you to be? Do you realise that by settling for less, you are forfeiting your royal inheritance?
At the end of the day we have two choices like the Gadinites and the Reubenites had. We can either trust God that the Promised Land is truly a land flowing with milk and honey and not allow anything to deter us from entering (not even the good appearance of another land) OR we could choose to settle for less and stay in our Present land.
Yes, it wouldn’t be an easy journey. There will be sadness on the way, tears (LOTS OF TEARS), there will be bad times, discouraging times but be confident of this very thing,
HE WHO HAS BEGUN A GOOD WORK IN YOU SHALL COMPLETE IT UNTIL THE DAY OF JESUS CHRIST. (PHILIPPIANS 1:6)
Be encouraged to defeat all with the help of Christ and match gloriously into your Promised Land.
You’re more than a conquerer.
